Nonetheless from the overall scheme of things, g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS is without a doubt the better snow tire. It is also good to know that the levels of snow grip are quite low for both tires as they are rated G-MAX AS-05 (2/10) & g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS (3/10) respectively. While it was also quicker in lap time ( -9.9 seconds !) and also subjectively better (+1 points) in snow handling. It stopped 19 feet (5.8 m) earlier than G-MAX AS-05 from a speed of 25mph (40 km/h) to 0. When it comes to snow, it is not an exaggeration to say that g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS totally destroyed G-MAX AS-05 in all snow performances. Hence they do not have to pass a certain threshold of snow traction level as determined by the legislation. From initial checks, both tires do not include the 3 peak mountain label to legally certified the tire as a winter tire. +2.1% in average of Noise, Comfort & Ride Quality.Īs both tires have been rated as an all season tire, we were thrilled when Tire Rack included snow on its testing list.People who drive fast cars prefer to focus more on traction/braking performances rather than subjective comfort Anyhow the ride comfort was tested and g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS was slightly better with an overall rating of 7/10 compared to the 7.42/10 of G-MAX AS-05. Normally in an ultra high performance segment, noise & comfort is usually not the main requirement. Overall, g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS has an edge in dry performances over G-MAX AS-05. Test driver feedback on g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS Even so, the positives outweighed the negatives, with confident braking feel and deceleration, nice balance with just a hint of understeer, and impressive traction to power away from turns. The precise steering and strong mid-corner grip meant the tire faithfully pointed the vehicle exactly where the driver intended, though it didn’t feel particularly light on its feet or ultra-responsive. Lap times were really close with g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS only 0.17 seconds faster. g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS managed a subjective dry handling score of 7.94/10 while G-MAX AS-05 had a 7.63/10 rating. In dry handling g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS continues to have an edge in both subjective & objective(lap time) criteria. g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS was ahead of G-MAX AS-05 in dry braking by stopping 4.3 feet (1.3 m) earlier. However this is the default daily usage and the tires have to perform at a very consistent level. In a nutshell, g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS dominated on wet surfaces convincingly over G-MAX AS-05.Īs for dry, safety is usually not an issue as the braking distance is much longer than wet. Combined with the high levels of ultimate grip, the result was driver confidence and the highest subjective score. This advantage in lap time was also reflective in subjective rating, as g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS had a slightly higher rating of 7.38/10 compared to 6.94/10 of G-MAX AS-05.Ĭlear communication with the driver revealed exactly where the limit was and the tire didn’t punish small mistakes. g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS had a 0.7 second advantage in lap time over G-MAX AS-05. With its wet braking advantage, g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS continued its dominance over G-MAX AS-05 in wet handling. With regards to our comparison, g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS has a big edge when it comes to wet braking, as it out performed G-MAX AS-05 by braking 8.4 feet (2.6 m) earlier. It was so important that the EU label has wet braking as one of its three criteria. Hence it is more likely to get into a road accident during wet conditions rather than on a sunny day. The friction of coefficient of the tire/road dramatically decreases in wet roads compared to dry roads. Testing vehicle of choice: 2020 BMW F36 430i Gran Coupe Wet ![]() I will be updating this review once I am able to use the Voice Remote Pro with a Roku device and test features like hands-free voice commands. (Who am I to judge you?) Are these three features worth $30? Perhaps, if you’re some kind of remote snob who demands more from your clicker. Or buy one if you lost or broke your Roku remote or want a second one. if you want hands-free voice commands, a rechargeable battery, and two programmable voice command buttons. But do you, possible owner of a compatible Roku, need this “pro” remote? It is not the nicest or most premium remote control - the new Siri Remote looks to win that award - and it’s debatable whether it really needs all these buttons. What I do know is that the Roku Voice Remote Pro is a solid remote with very good buttons. You would think that 70-something years after the original TV remote control was released that we would have somehow perfected remote controls by now, right? How could any company, let alone Apple, screw up a remote control for controlling video so badly that a redesign is celebrated? Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the industrial design labs of all these companies! I can confirm the Roku Voice Remote Pro has very nice buttons, but is it really a “pro” remote? Not even close. Unfortunately, there’s no power adapter so you will need to supply one yourself. At least there’s a micro USB cable included in the box and it’s no flimsy thin one either - it’s reinforced. I understand the cost savings going with micro USB instead of USB-C, but can we just let micro USB go? Let’s move on so I can throw away my bin of micro USB cables. What I strongly dislike is the micro USB port! Because I got nothing good to say about any product that’s still using micro USB in 2021. It slides up and down - it works and brings me no highs. I have no real feeling about the microphone switch on the left side. They are louder when pressed and don’t feel as nice as the buttons on the front of the Roku Voice Remote. They look, feel, and sound like cheap buttons if you are familiar with cheap plasticky buttons that make an ear-splitting thwack sound when you press them. The buttons on the right side are made of hard plastic just like the remote’s body. ![]() I don’t know if this was intentional or not, but it strikes me as a detail that makes these buttons more satisfying to push. They are very nice buttons and underneath my fingertips, each button makes a slightly different depression sound when pressed. Some buttons like the dedicated streaming service buttons and power button are slightly concave while the others are gently convex. The buttons on the front of the remote all have a rubberized feel to them. Raymond Wong / Input Does the Roku Voice Remote Pro have too many damn buttons?Īs for the quality of the buttons. My god that’s a lot of buttons for a streaming box remote. Where’s that YouTube button (ah, yes)? Then, there’s the matter of Roku inking a deal to replace the Sling TV button with an Apple TV button mine didn’t come with one but newer ones will, which means you should wait for it if you prefer that instead. By that definition, the Voice Remote Pro has enough buttons and not enough of them at the same time. A remote is supposed to have buttons so you can control things solely by pressing buttons, especially in the dark. Steve Jobs reportedly had koumpounophobia which explains why he kept the original Apple TV remote to four buttons (seven if the directional ring counts as four) and removed buttons on products wherever he could ( buttonless iPod shuffle anyone?). And Apple’s new Siri Remote has 13 buttons.ĭoes the Roku Voice Remote Pro have too many damn buttons? It’s halfway to the button-infested TV and cable remotes that trigger my mild koumpounophobia (the fear buttons). Google’s Chromecast with Google TV remote has 12 buttons (15 if you count the directional ring as four). The soon-to-be-retired Siri Remote has seven buttons on the front and Amazon’s Alexa Voice Remote for the Fire TV has 16 buttons (19 if you want to count the directional ring as four).
